An Exploration in MEDITATIVE BOOKBINDING / Explore the ancient art of bookbinding as a pathway to a meditative state. Erica Ekrem will provide guidance for you to step into your role as a maker. Each student will sew a woven leather journal from a prepared kit. Together we will reflect on the teachings of water to guide us in the Long-Stitch binding method. You will learn to guide the needle and thread as if it were a river running through the journal connecting one leaflet to the next.

We will:  Consider ethical material sourcing. –Customize thread and paper colors. –Engage the breath to alleviate stress, quiet the mind, generate focus, and access creative flow. –Reflect on your personal experiences with water or a body of water. –Sit in tea meditation. –Fold and punch signatures. –Learn the Long Stitch binding method with leather as casing. –Learn decorative stitching patterns and an ornamental weaving technique to strengthen and protect the exposed stitching. –Explore journaling exercises. –Reflect on the final pieces and overall process with one another

Come to sit in your truth and share your story with new friends. Depart with a journal in your hands, and in your heart, the empowered ability to make another. $210 + Offsite Lodging; Up to 12 students.
